Conferences

AM ConferencesThe national access management conferences are held once every two years. These conferences are an opportunity to get the latest information on access management and to share experiences and advice with others involved in access management. Hosting a national access management conference is an excellent way to stimulate interest about access management in your state and region.

SAFETEA-LU requires metropolitan planning organizations to integrate safety and security considerations into the planning process. FTA and Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations funded four innovative projects in 2005 addressing a range of safety and security issues. These projects will be showcased, including results and lessons learned. Follow-up discussions provide the audience with a chance to explore issues and opportunities MPOs face when addressing safety and security needs.

Training

Those interested in obtaining training in access management should consider the three-day short course 'Access Management, Location and Design (Course #133078), which is offered by the National Highway Institute (NHI). An electronic copy of the materials from past NHI courses have been included in the Access Management CD Library.

Roundabout Conference (2008)

Roundabout Conference

Click here for the National Roundabout Conference Draft Proceedings. The National Roundabout Conference held in Kansas City, Missouri was sponsored by the Transportation Research Board in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation.

Some of the comments from participants at the final Town Hall meeting included:

  • I am surprised at how few drawbacks there are to roundabouts!
  • It takes a holistic design, all parts are important
  • A peer review is important
  • The need for uniformity in signing and striping and lighting
  • The public doesn't like the idea of a roundabout, but once built, they love it!
